Shaping the Future of Health Financing: FAH in 2025

Shaping the Future of Health Financing: FAH in 2025

by Mark Mwenda Leave a Comment

By: Wendy Wakhusama

As we embark on 2025, the Financing Alliance for Health (FAH) finds itself at a pivotal juncture. This year marks the third year of implementing our ambitious 2023-2027 strategy—a roadmap that has guided us through significant achievements and positioned us to drive even greater impact. Our commitment to ensuring sustainable financing for community health systems remains unwavering, and the strides we have made so far fuel our optimism for the journey ahead.

Progressing Toward Our Vision
The 2023-2027 strategy has been our blueprint for addressing critical gaps in health financing, advocacy, and technical support. By focusing on systems strengthening, partnership building, and resource mobilization, we are on track to achieve key milestones. Over the past two years, we have:

  • Secured transformative partnerships: Collaborations with governments, global health organizations, and private sector actors have enabled us to amplify our impact.
  • Advanced gender and equity in health programming: By integrating gender considerations into health financing and service delivery, we are working to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing essential healthcare.
  • Strengthened community health systems: Through targeted technical assistance and advocacy, we have helped countries design and implement sustainable financing models that prioritize community health.

2025 Priorities: Building on Momentum
As we step into 2025, our focus sharpens on several priority areas:

  1. Deepening Country-Level Engagement
This year, FAH will continue providing technical assistance to the countries we supported in 2024—Kenya, the Central African Republic, Zambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Ethiopia. We are committed to tailoring solutions to the unique contexts of each country. By collaborating closely with Ministries of Health, we aim to strengthen resilient health systems that can withstand shocks while addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.

  1. Accelerating Climate-Resilient Health Systems
Recognizing the growing impact of climate change on health, we are scaling efforts to integrate climate considerations into health financing and planning. Our work in this space has already garnered attention, and we aim to solidify our leadership in advocating for climate-resilient health systems.
  1. Expanding Resource Mobilization Efforts
With an ambitious goal to mobilize additional funding for community health, FAH will continue to engage with diverse funders and strategic partners. By making the case for sustained investments in primary healthcare, we aim to close the $1 billion financing gap and ensure that CHWs are adequately supported.
  1. Innovative Financing Mechanism
At the Financing Alliance for Health (FAH), we are reimagining how health systems are financed to ensure every community has access to quality healthcare. Through Innovative Financing Mechanisms, FAH aims to bridge resource gaps by mobilizing domestic resources, leveraging public-private partnerships, and integrating creative funding models. Our commitment to scaling these solutions is further exemplified by our entry into the Community Health Unit Savings and Loan Association (CHUSLA) model. This innovative approach is designed to empower Community Health Workers (CHWs) by providing financial support and income-generating opportunities. CHUSLA operates as a revolving loan and income-generating scheme, boosting CHW motivation and ensuring the sustainability of community health programs. We are piloting this initiative in Makueni County, Kenya, as part of our broader efforts to strengthen local health systems through sustainable financing and the empowerment of health workers.

A Collective Effort
None of this progress would be possible without the dedication and support of our partners, donors, and team members. Your support drives our mission forward and inspires us to reach new heights. As we look ahead, we remain committed to fostering collaboration and innovation, ensuring that our collective efforts translate into healthier communities worldwide.

Staying the Course
2025 is the midpoint of our 2023-2027 strategy, a time for reflection, learning, and renewed determination. While challenges remain, the progress we have achieved affirms the importance of our work. Together, we are building a future where every community has access to equitable, high-quality healthcare—a future where no one is left behind.

Let’s make 2025 a year of transformative impact for global health—together.
