Rebecca Furth, Initiatives Inc. Interviews Margaret Kilonzo, Amref Health Africa

December 12, 2017 By chwadmin Leave a Comment

By:

Amref Health Africa brought its #payCHWs campaign to the 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health held in Dublin, Ireland from 13-17 November 2017. Rebecca Furth sat down with Margaret Kilonzo (pictured) to get a CHW’s perspective on the Global Forum.

RF: What do you think has been most important about this conference from your perspective as a CHW?

MK: For me what has been important is the recognition of the community health workers by most of the countries represented at the forum. The other thing which I admired is the advocacy for the payment of the community health workers. Because of what policy makers, government leaders and implementing partners are doing they can really recognize the work of CHWs.

RF: What will you tell your CHW friends when you go home?

MK: I will tell them we should continue serving the community no matter what. But, Amref Health Africa is doing a lot of advocacy for their payment.

RF: Anything else you want the world to know about your perspective?

MK: They should know CHWs are very important people and they should include them in their systems and recognize their work.
