Mobile health intervention for type 2 diabetes management delivered by community health workers and clinical pharmacists: Intervention costs and healthcare resource utilization

by

This study examined the cost of running a community health workers led mobile health program to help African American and Latinx adults manage type 2 diabetes. The program improved blood sugar levels and cost about $56,000 to operate for one year, including start-up and running expenses. However, it did not reduce hospital visits, emergency visits, or overall healthcare costs … [Read more...] about Mobile health intervention for type 2 diabetes management delivered by community health workers and clinical pharmacists: Intervention costs and healthcare resource utilization

Community-Based Models for Type 2 Diabetes Care A Review of Effectiveness, Implementation, and Health System Integration

by

Community-based programs for type 2 diabetes, led by community health workers, peer educators, or digital tools, can help people manage their disease, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Systematic review of healthcare-led and lay-led interventions for type 2 diabetes in community settings

by

This meta-analysis looked at community-based programs for people with type 2 diabetes, including those led by non-healthcare workers or supported by peers. These programs improved blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, and body weight, though they didn’t significantly change HDL or LDL levels. Professional-led programs were slightly more effective than non-professional ones, … [Read more...] about Systematic review of healthcare-led and lay-led interventions for type 2 diabetes in community settings

Costs and coverage of community health worker-led hypertension and diabetes screening in rural Lesotho (ComBaCaL): cost–consequence analysis of a cohort study

by

In rural Lesotho, community health workers (CHWs) used a tablet-based clinical decision support app to screen adults for hypertension and diabetes, reaching high coverage at moderate costs. Over 6 months, CHWs screened 88% of eligible adults for hypertension and 95% for diabetes. The cost per person screened was $41 in the project model and $17 in a routine implementation … [Read more...] about Costs and coverage of community health worker-led hypertension and diabetes screening in rural Lesotho (ComBaCaL): cost–consequence analysis of a cohort study

Effectiveness of Community Health Worker Interventions in Type 2 Diabetes Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

by

This review looked at how well community health workers help people manage type 2 diabetes. It analyzed 40 studies with more than 9,600 participants and found that CHW programs clearly help lower HbA1c levels. The results were consistent across different countries, income levels, program styles, and patient backgrounds, suggesting these interventions work in many settings. One … [Read more...] about Effectiveness of Community Health Worker Interventions in Type 2 Diabetes Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
