Utilizing an mHealth Platform and Community Health Workers to Enhance Epilepsy Screening and Treatment in a Rural Setting in Mali: A Closed Cohort Study

by

This study tested using mobile health tools to help community health workers in rural Mali screen and treat epilepsy. In 17 villages, workers used a phone app to record patient data and share it with neurologists remotely. Of 64 suspected cases, 61 were confirmed. After six months of treatment, nearly 90% of patients had no seizures in the previous month, and most stayed in … [Read more...] about Utilizing an mHealth Platform and Community Health Workers to Enhance Epilepsy Screening and Treatment in a Rural Setting in Mali: A Closed Cohort Study

Contributions of a community health worker program in improving district health system performance in South Africa, using routine health service variables in a quasi-experimental study design

by

This study looked at how large-scale community health worker (CHW) programs affect health services in urban South Africa. Surveys, interviews, and focus groups showed that the expanded role was widely accepted by CHWs, health leaders, and 97% of community members. It was seen as helpful because it met local health needs and strengthened CHWs’ roles. The role of community health workers (CHWs) in improving cervical cancer screening rates and access to treatment in underserved US populations: a scoping review

by

This study looked at how community health workers (CHWs) help underserved women in the US get screened and treated for cervical cancer. Researchers reviewed 12 studies published between 2002 and 2023 and found that CHWs improved women’s knowledge about Pap smears and cancer prevention while increasing access to screening. The review also identified challenges faced by both CHWs … [Read more...] about The role of community health workers (CHWs) in improving cervical cancer screening rates and access to treatment in underserved US populations: a scoping review
