Why Community Health Workers’ Roles in Latinx Communities Are Essential

by

Authors: Wandy D Hernandez-Gordon

In this first-person narrative, author Wendy Hernandez-Gordon discusses the essential role of community health workers, especially among Latinx communities. Hernandez-Gordon draws on her personal experience with racism and working as a CHW. Overall, Hernandez-Gordon argues that the growing CHW profession, if integrated more broadly into the healthcare workforce, will increase individual access to health information, enhance availability of culturally-competent care, and improve health outcomes for all, regardless of race, income, and background.
