What does resilience and well-being mean to community health workers? An exploratory study in the upper east region, Ghana

by

Authors: James Kotuah Sakeah, David Addiss, Cindy Xin Feng, Evelyn Sakeah, Prosper Asaana, Margaret Gyapong, Ian Colman, Alison Krentel

This study explored how Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Ghana understand resilience and well-being in their daily lives and work. It found that CHWs rely on personal determination, support from family and their communities, and their faith to cope with challenges. They also described well-being as including good physical, mental, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual health. The study concludes that supporting CHWs requires approaches that recognize their culture, community relationships, and different personal needs.
