In this mixed-methods study, researchers in The Gambia set out to assess reductions in malaria prevalence within communities where village health workers (VHWs) are present. VHWs administered antimalarial drugs to acutely ill individuals and their close contacts. The study concludes that VHWs have the capacity to treat and reduce negative malaria-related outcomes, while obtaining respect and trust from the community members they serve.
