In Indonesia’s stunting prevention program, many community health workers (CHWs) work without a salary, handling tasks like monthly checkups, counseling, and home visits. This study interviewed 130 CHWs in rural Lombok to understand the financial burden they face. It found that over half were unhappy with the small payments they received. Their work was worth much more than what they were paid, and they often had to spend their own money to do their jobs. The study highlights the need to better pay CHWs to keep the program strong and effective.
