This study sought to explore the enabling and limiting factors related to the usability and acceptance of the Mobile Maternal Health Wallet (MMHW) intervention during its implementation in Madagascar, Africa. The MMHW was developed for maternal healthcare to mitigate or eliminate out-of-pocket costs for health expenditures. A cross-sectional, mixed methods study was conducted with mothers and pregnant women and facility-and community-based health workers from public-sector health facilities in three districts of the Analamanga region. The results showed that the MMHW intervention was accepted and utilized by health workers and women from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Still, authors suggest that further research should be conducted to evaluate cost-effectiveness and determine the impact of this intervention on access to health care, financial risk protection, and health outcomes.
