Understanding Scope and Competencies: A Contemporary Look at the United States Community Health Worker Field

by

Authors: E. Lee Rosenthal, Carl H. Rush, and Caitlin G. Allen

Progress Report of the Community Health Worker (CHW) Core Consensus (C3) Project: Building National Consensus on CHW Core Roles, Skills, and Qualities :

This project focuses on U.S. CHW roles, skills, and qualities and how these shape CHW practice. Collaborating with a number of different state and local CHW associations, the project conducted several different analyses to identify the roles, skills, and qualities of CHWs today. These findings suggest that CHWs in the U.S. have evolved to meet the needs of the changing healthcare environment. Knowing this information can help inform recommended guidelines or policies related to CHWs.
