This study investigates how to effectively integrate community health workers (CHWs) into a large state university health system. Through qualitative analysis of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Hospital and Health Science System (UI Health), factors critical to CHW integration were identified. Fourteen factors were grouped into individual, team, organization, and community categories. The study highlights the importance of considering organizational context and community engagement alongside training and supervision for successful CHW integration. These findings offer valuable insights for health systems aiming to integrate CHWs and promote best practices in CHW integration.
