Understanding community health worker incentive preferences in Uganda using a discrete choice experiment.

June 20, 2022 By

Authors: Smisha Agarwal, Timothy Abuya, Richard Kintu, Daniel Mwanga, Melvin Obadha, Shivani Pandya, Charlotte E Warren

Uganda’s CHWs, Village Health Teams (VHT), support village health information access and some primary health care. However, these programs are often underfunded contributing to higher rates of attrition within these teams. Through focus groups and in-depth interviews with CHWs and other key stakeholders, this study determined preferred job incentives for CHWs that would facilitate their motivation and success.
