This article details a COVID-19 training program for community health workers in Bihar, India. Fifteen thousand CHWs enrolled in the training which took place in May 2021. During the one-day event, CHWs were educated on how to identify potential cases of COVID-19, how to monitor patients and arrange testing, and how to work alongside local health centers. One month later, 80 percent of surveyed CHWs reported that they were satisfied with the training. Additionally, primary health centers in Bihar saw an average increase of 10 new COVID-19 referrals each day. This study reinforces the notion that it is essential to provide CHWs with the proper knowledge and resources to lessen the global burden of COVID-19 as it continues to present a public health threat.
