In response to low cancer screening rates in underserved areas of Southern California, City of Hope launched a training program for Community Health Workers (CHWs) from health centers, hospitals, and community organizations. The program focused on cancer prevention and screenings for breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers. A total of 101 trainees participated, primarily from Latino/Hispanic communities. Key factors that helped increase screening included providing support, affordable exams, transportation, and childcare. The program showed that community partners are ready to be involved in cancer prevention and screening efforts.
