As the face of Swaziland’s CHW programme, Rural Health Motivators (RHM) provide health promotion messaging, household assessments, and general community health referrals, with some HIV- and tuberculosis-related (TB) responsibilities. The best method to support RHMs as they perform HIV and TB responsibilities remains unclear due to the decentralized nature of the program. Caroline Walker and colleagues interviewed RHMs to understand how they are received within their community and identify opportunities to improve support for them. RHMs reported that community members often expected them to perform duties outside of their scope of work and that provision of services were often hindered by insufficient training and supervision.
