Community Health Workers (CHWs), especially women, face gender bias and low pay, often working in unpaid roles. This study examined the struggles of female Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) through a gender lens, revealing a system of male dominance in community health programs. Most BHWs were married, middle-aged, had little education, and no prior jobs, reflecting missed opportunities due to gender inequality. Gender bias was also seen in the lack of women’s representation in decision-making for health programs. The study calls for promoting gender equality and addressing biases to better support these workers.
