Black and Hispanic youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) by seeking input from diabetes and school clinicians. Through web-based workshops using a human-centered design approach, the researchers identified key challenges faced by both families and clinicians. Clinicians reported that families struggled with health-related social needs, navigating the healthcare system, and managing device logistics. For themselves, clinicians noted a lack of time and support for troubleshooting technology and coordinating care with schools. To address these issues, the participants co-designed a prototype for a Community Health Worker (CHW) model, suggesting that CHWs could identify social needs, provide peer support to caregivers, act as a school liaison, and offer administrative help to clinicians. The study concludes that incorporating the perspectives of clinicians in the design process is crucial for creating a practical and acceptable CHW model aimed at improving diabetes technology use.
