This study looked at how community health workers (CHWs) help underserved women in the US get screened and treated for cervical cancer. Researchers reviewed 12 studies published between 2002 and 2023 and found that CHWs improved women’s knowledge about Pap smears and cancer prevention while increasing access to screening. The review also identified challenges faced by both CHWs and the women they serve, such as cultural barriers and limited resources. The findings show that culturally tailored CHW programs can support better decision-making and encourage more women to get screened and treated, ultimately improving health outcomes.
