The role of childhood experiences in shaping career choices as a Community Health Worker serving agricultural workers in rural Texas

by

Authors: Susana Zavala & Anabel Rodriguez

This study looked at community health workers who support agricultural workers in Texas and how their personal backgrounds shape their work. Many had similar life experiences to the people they serve, which helped them understand challenges like lack of transport, insurance, and access to care. This connection made them more committed to their role. The study highlights the need to support these workers with training and networks so they can continue helping their communities effectively.
