The New York Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 Disparities (NYCEAL) collaborated with health agencies to boost COVID-19 vaccination rates in New York City. Through partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and community health workers (CHWs), NYCEAL provided vaccine education and support in multiple languages, addressing misinformation and social determinants of health (SDOH) needs. They conducted events at CBO sites, offering vaccinations alongside food assistance and health resources. Leveraging mobile vaccine units, NYCEAL ensured convenient access to vaccines, irrespective of insurance or citizenship status. Their grassroots approach, involving trusted messengers from diverse communities, facilitated vaccine uptake and fostered trust in science, highlighting the importance of community engagement in public health initiatives.
