The implementation of a community-centered first aid education program for older adults-community health workers perceived barriers

by

Authors: Guo Yin, Linghui Chen, Yuanrong Wu, Fei Zhao, Qian Zhu, Siting Lin

This qualitative research study aimed to explore the barriers and challenges of first aid training for older adults from the perspective of CHWs, and to provide a basis for better first-aid training for older adults in the community. CHWs were recruited from two community health service centers in Qujing, China and from one in Guangzhou, China from May to July 2022. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with participants face-to-face, and uncovered that CHWs are highly aware of multiple barriers and challenges in providing first-aid training to community-based elderly populations. Hence, supportive training, policies, and government funding are crucial for CHWs to optimally deliver first-aid training to older adults.
