The Impact of Rural Alimentation on the Motivation and Retention of Indigenous Community Health Workers in India: A Qualitative Study

by

Authors: Ajit Kerketta, Raghavendra A N

This study explored how access to local, traditional food influences the motivation and retention of Indigenous community health workers (CHWs) in rural Jharkhand, India. CHWs who had consistent access to nutritious local foods reported higher job satisfaction, better health, and stronger commitment to their roles. Community support and cultural ties to food also played a key role. The findings suggest that improving access to organic, nutrient-rich food can help retain CHWs and strengthen rural healthcare services.
