This article looks at the daily political economy of health with focus on four primary pillars: power, agency, intersectionality and the mutual implication of global and local. This framework is used to assess the role of community health workers in bridging the gap between health systems and vulnerable groups in the 2015 Zika outbreak in Brazil.
