The effect of a multilevel community health worker-led intervention on patient knowledge and receipt of precision medicine: Updated findings from a randomized clinical trial.

The authors developed the Addressing Latinx CANcer Care Equity Study to improve access to precision medicine for low-income and Latinx cancer patients in Monterey County, California. Clinicians received training, and community health workers educated patients to discuss precision medicine with their oncologists. In the study, 110 patients were split into two groups: one receiving usual care, the other receiving the intervention. The intervention group showed increased knowledge and more received precision medicine testing. These findings suggest that community health worker interventions can reduce disparities in precision medicine cancer care.
