In this study, researchers assessed the short-term effects of a Learning Partner Model education program on cancer prevention for community health volunteers. Researchers recruited 107 CHVs from three areas of Japan to complete the study as primary participants. Each participant attended a cancer prevention course and was then encouraged to pass on the information they had learned to a friend or family member, who was then assigned as a secondary participant. Researchers found a statistically significant increase in cancer prevention knowledge in both primary and secondary participants following completion of the course. However, primary participants were more likely to have healthy habits than secondary participants. Overall, this study proposes a strategy to disseminate health information through peer networks, which may improve overall community health.
