Task-sharing with community health workers to treat hypertension: a scoping review

by

Authors: Inagaki, Yokoa; Matsushita, Kunihiro; Appel, Lawrence, Perry, Henry B.; Neupane, Dinesha

This review looked at studies from 2010 to 2022 on community health workers (CHWs) helping to manage hypertension. Out of 122 articles, only seven were from low-income countries. Most studies had CHWs focus on health education (61%) and blood pressure checks (60%), while only three studies involved them in giving medication. Interventions mostly took place in people’s homes (75%). The review highlights the need for more research in low-income countries, experimental studies, and involving CHWs in more advanced tasks. Future studies should also give detailed information about the interventions.
