by

Authors: Awash Teklehaimanot; Yayehyirad Kitaw; Asfawesen G/Yohannes; Samuel Girma; Aklilu Seyoum; Hailay Desta; Yemane YeEbiyo

This paper undertakes a study to make a needs assessment, define priorities and identify resources to plan appropriate CE programs and prepare reference materials.

Method: The study was conducted in 27 woredas, 50 health posts (HP) and on 60 HEW in all regions where HEW have been already deployed.

Results: Major problems identified were:

  •           Lack of planning and coordination
  •           Lack of reference and basic education materials/ especially in local language
  •           Technology deficit
  •           Training in curative care and delivery is high in demand

Remark: other studies also make similar conclusion. But sample size is too small to be representative of the whole population
