Structural barriers and facilitators to accessing HIV services for marginalized working populations: Insights from farm workers in South Africa

by

Authors: N Mlangeni, Martina Lembani, Olatunji Adetokunboh, Peter S Nyasulu

Farm workers in Limpopo, South Africa face challenges in accessing HIV healthcare services. A study exploring their experiences identified several barriers, including high transport costs, negative attitudes from health workers, stigma, and poor working conditions. However, mobile health services, community health workers, and supportive work environments helped improve access. The study highlights the need to revise HIV policies and healthcare delivery models to better meet the unique needs of farm workers, with work conditions being the main factor affecting their access to services.
