Authors: Prakriti Shrestha j, Kaosar Afsana j, Manuj C. Weerasinghe, Henry B. Perry, Harsha Joshi, Nisha Rana, Zahid Ali Memon, Nazrana Khaled, Sumit Malhotra, Surbhi Bhardwaj, Simrin Kafle, Yoko Inagaki, Austin Schimdt, Stephen Hodgins, Dinesh Neupane, Krishna D. Rao

This paper reviews community health worker (CHW) programs in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, highlighting their roles in health education, community services, and maternal and child health. While CHWs have had successes, challenges remain. To improve CHW programs and achieve Universal Health Coverage, the paper suggests focusing on better integrating CHWs into national health systems and expanding their roles to address emerging health issues.
