Strengthening Preventive Care for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse People in Australia: The Case for Community Health Worker Programs

by

Authors: Sabuj Kanti Mistry, Uday Narayan Yadav, Soumyadeep Bhaumik, Zohra S. Lassi, Mark Harris

This paper highlights the health challenges faced by culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Australia, who experience higher rates of chronic diseases and often face barriers to accessing health and social services. It suggests that community health workers could help address these gaps by providing culturally appropriate health education, prevention, and support in primary care and community settings. Strengthening the role of CHWs could help improve access to preventive care for diverse communities.
