This study examined whether educating promotoras, who are community health workers in New Mexico, USA, could help them recognize possible signs of melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer. Fifty-four promotoras completed a quiz using skin lesion photographs and rated their confidence before and after reading an educational flyer explaining warning signs to look for. After the training, their ability to identify suspicious skin changes improved, and they felt more confident and comfortable discussing their concerns. The findings suggest that simple educational materials can help community health workers recognize possible skin cancer early and encourage people to seek medical care.
