This study examined how a training programme helped US health departments plan for the long-term future of their community health worker (CHW) workforce. Twenty of the 22 participating teams completed at least half of the training, and 18 developed goals for keeping CHW programmes running beyond short-term funding. The training and a national summit helped participants better understand funding options and feel more confident about planning for sustainability. The study highlights the importance of involving CHWs in planning, securing long-term funding, building strong partnerships, and putting supportive policies in place to maintain the workforce.
