Severe acute malnutrition treatment delivered by low-literate community health workers in South Sudan: A prospective cohort study

by

Authors: Naoko Kozuki, Elburg Van Boetzelaer, Casie Tesfai, and Annie Zhou

Interventions deploying CHWs to deliver treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) show great promise for improving the health of children, but sparse research has examined the success of these interventions when provided by illiterate CHWs in low-resource areas such as South Sudan. Naoko Kozuki and colleagues address this gap by enrolling 308 children experiencing SAM into a CHW-ledp acute malnutrition treatment program lasting up to 16 weeks. . As many as 75% of children in this study experienced a full recovery.
