Savoring the service: A qualitative study of Latine community health workers’ health promotion efforts

by

Authors: Elayne Zhou, Daniela Arcos, Lyric N. Russo, Violet A. Flores, Jacob Aguilera, Marco Maldonado, Stanley J. Huey, Jessica L. Borelli

This study explored how Community Health Workers (CHWs) in California find strength and motivation in their work supporting Latino communities. Thirty CHWs were asked to reflect on their experiences helping others. They described rewarding moments, personal strengths that helped them cope with difficulties, challenges in their work, and the importance of support from others. The findings suggest that reflecting on positive experiences and having strong support networks may help CHWs manage the demands of their work and protect their mental well-being. These insights could guide future efforts to support the well-being of CHWs and the communities they serve.
