This study assessed the working conditions of community health workers (CHWs) involved in a national COVID-19 response programme across the United States. Survey findings showed that CHWs generally had supportive supervisors, good working relationships with other health professionals, access to work facilities, and some involvement in workplace and community decisions. However, many wanted better pay and benefits, and opportunities for career growth. The study also found that the tools used to assess CHW working conditions were reliable and could help compare experiences across different programmes. The findings highlight the importance of fair pay, supportive supervision, teamwork, and involving CHWs in decisions to help them do their work effectively.
