Through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, researchers of this study explored the challenges community health workers face providing maternal and child health care in Odisha, India during the COVID-19 pandemic. This qualitative approach revealed personal, community and facility level challenges, such as stress, lack of community support and inadequate personal protective equipment. Researchers identified yoga and involving community leaders as strategies to overcome these challenges. If these mitigating factors are implemented early on in similar health emergencies, researchers suggest that CHW performance and continuum of care could be enhanced.
