This study examined how community health worker (CHW) behaviors impact maternal and child health outcomes in a rural home visit program. CHWs were assigned to either a standard care group or an intervention group with improved monitoring and supervision. Results showed that consistent home visits took 9–12 months to establish, with fewer visits due to COVID-19. More visits were linked to better antiretroviral therapy adherence and child grant access, but overall, CHW competency did not significantly affect outcomes. The study highlights the need for long-term investment, proper hiring, and strong management support to ensure the success of CHW programs.
