Community health workers (CHWs) are key to improving healthcare systems, especially in achieving Universal Health Coverage. They are trusted community members who provide basic health services and education. CHWs have been vital in disease prevention, control, and health promotion, especially during health crises like COVID-19, Ebola, and HIV. They build trust, share accurate information, and ensure people can access care. Their work strengthens healthcare systems, as seen in Ethiopia, and helps close health equity gaps, such as improving maternal and newborn care.
