This study sought to assess the effectiveness and costs of two cervical cancer screening recruitment strategies conducted in a low-resource setting in Cameroon. Recruitment strategies were conducted through either Community Information Channels (CIC) (e.g. street banners) or cervical cancer prevention counseling with CHWs. While the results demonstrated a higher recruitment rate through CIC compared to CHW counseling, CHWs improved recruitment coverage in rural areas and were able to engage with and invite more women of different socio-demographic profiles. These outcomes highlight how CHWs offer an important complement to CIC for expanding coverage in rural settings, while also demonstrating their centrality to building awareness and motivation for prevention screening.
