Reaching Communities for Child Health: Advancing Health Outcomes through Multi-Sectoral Approaches

by

Authors: Christopher Bessenecker and Lynette Walker

This paper explores the effectiveness of child health interventions and how to improve health care access for children, mothers, and caregivers. Multi-sectoral approaches, including utilization of community-based programming and community health workers, can help extend the reach of health care to these populations. Answering three questions will allow exploration of how multi-sectoral approaches are used within community-based child health and development programs: 1) how do NGOs define a multi-sectoral platform; 2) how do NGOs implement a multi-sectoral platform to achieve better or more sustainable health outcomes; and 3) how can child health programmers work effectively with other sectors to support community-based improvements in child health?
