This study compared the effectiveness of a diabetes self-management program led by either registered nurses (RNs) or community health workers (promotores) for Spanish-speaking Mexican Americans with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Both groups showed similar improvements in diabetes self-care behaviors over time, with no significant differences between them. The findings suggest that both RNs and promotores can effectively deliver diabetes education to this population, potentially increasing access to care for this community.
