Promotion of Healthy and Adequate Food in a rural territory: pathways to reflection and praxis with Community Health Workers

by

Authors: Beatriz Oliveira Blackman Machado, Anelise Rizzolo de Oliveira, Etel Matielo

Access to adequate and healthy food is a basic human right, yet rural communities often face more challenges with food insecurity due to resource inequalities. This study explores the role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in addressing these challenges in rural areas of the Federal District. Using Culture Circles, four CHWs discussed their views on healthy eating and the social factors influencing food access. The discussions highlighted the need for collective action and education to improve access to healthy food in rural areas. Culture Circles were found to be an effective tool for raising awareness and fostering change.
