Togo’s National Malaria Control Programme tested a new home-based malaria management approach in rural areas from 2014 to 2017. Community health workers visited homes weekly to test for malaria and provide treatment. The study involved over 11,000 people, and results showed high positivity rates, especially among children and during the rainy season. Factors like having a fever increased the likelihood of a positive test. This approach, which allows for quick diagnosis and treatment, appears effective in reducing malaria cases and could significantly lower malaria-related illness and death in hard-to-reach areas.
