This study tested if community health workers (CHWs) could help control blood pressure (BP) among hypertensive patients in low-income areas of Kiambu County, Kenya. In a 6-month trial, 80 patients were randomly assigned to either a CHW home-based intervention group or a usual care group. CHWs provided monthly home visits with health education and lifestyle advice. Results showed that patients in the CHW group had a greater reduction in BP compared to the usual care group, with 62.2% achieving controlled BP, versus 25.8% in the control group. The intervention had no significant effect on body mass index (BMI) or waist-height ratio (WHtR). The findings suggest CHW-led home interventions can effectively improve BP control in low-income populations.
