Perceptions of community healthcare workers on the use of teledentistry for seniors in Singapore: A qualitative study

by

Authors: Milawaty Nurjono, Ezra Ho, Jing Yi Lee, Roland Petcu, Christina Pc Sim

This study explored the challenges and opportunities of implementing teledentistry (T-DOCS) from the perspective of Community Health Workers (CHWs). Interviews with 43 CHWs revealed barriers such as low awareness of dental care, lack of confidence, staffing shortages, competing duties, and limited access due to COVID-19. However, CHWs’ motivation, existing patient relationships, prior telemedicine experience, and supportive management were seen as strengths. To ensure success, the study recommends CHW training, better integration into workflows, incentives, and strong policy support, including funding and legal frameworks.
