Perceptions and Experiences of Uninsured Latinx Adult Participants in a Community Health Worker-Delivered Intervention to Address Depression

by

Authors: Monica Guerrero Vazquez, Marzena Maksym, Sarah Polk, Suzanne M Dolwick Grieb

This study looked at how Latinx immigrants felt after joining a 10-session mental health program led by a community health worker. The sessions used simple therapy and mindfulness techniques to help with depression and anxiety. Many participants joined because they were feeling desperate. After the program, they said they felt better about themselves and appreciated the support from the CHW. The study shows that CHWs can help meet mental health needs in Latinx communities, but more research is needed to improve ways to support these patients.
