This quasi-experimental study sought to determine the efficacy of a disaster management training program among Accredited Social Health Activists, ASHAs, in Mysuru, India. Forty ASHAs from three primary health facilities were enrolled. ASHAs attended a three hour disaster management workshop and then underwent a mock-disaster drill. Researchers assessed disaster preparedness knowledge before the intervention and at one month follow-up, and found a statistically significant improvement in disaster preparedness knowledge. Overall, the results of this study suggest that training programs with hands-on practice and activities are an effective method for improving the knowledge of ASHAs in specific technical areas.
