This study examines the role of community health workers (CHWs) in six Latin American countries. It highlights their contributions to primary healthcare but also identifies challenges in policy implementation. While CHWs play versatile roles in primary healthcare, inconsistencies exist due to variable implementation of WHO guidelines. The study suggests a classification of CHW profiles based on the population’s access to healthcare services, aiming to optimize their effectiveness in addressing community needs.
