North West Syria Community Health Brief

by

Authors: UNICEF

North West Syria (NWS) has been severely affected by ongoing conflict since 2011, leading to a humanitarian crisis. The situation worsened with an economic crisis, COVID-19, cholera, and an earthquake in 2023, affecting over 4.5 million people, especially women and children. Many displaced people live in overcrowded camps with limited services. There is a major shortage of funding, which led to hospital closures and the destruction of many health facilities. Half of the health workers have fled, weakening the healthcare system. Community health workers were introduced in 2015, but challenges and inconsistencies in services persist. This mapping gives an overview of the current community health situation in NWS.
