Navigating older adults care insights from caregivers and community health workers in Ngestiharjo, Bantul, Yogyakarta

by

Authors: Firdaus Hafidz, Adelia Pramudita Monanda, Dewi Caesaria Fitriani, Tatik Hariyanti, Erni Jamiah

This study explored the knowledge, attitudes, and caregiving practices of older adult caregivers in Ngestiharjo, Indonesia, along with the role of Community Health Workers (CHWs). Most caregivers were women over 50, often lacking knowledge in areas like depression and exercise for seniors. They had moderate confidence in caregiving and were particularly good at maintaining a clean environment. CHWs played a key role in bridging knowledge gaps and improving healthcare access. The findings emphasize the need for educational programs to strengthen caregivers’ skills, especially in mental health and physical activity, and to support CHWs in enhancing caregiving quality.
